Spark Cleantech is a fast-growing and innovative start-up developing a breakthrough process that replaces the combustion of hydrocarbons in high-temperature industrial furnaces and in materials production with an alternative that is not only fully decarbonised, but also economically competitive and requires only minimal adaptation to existing industrial processes.
Following the successful deployment of an industrial pilot on a client site in 2024 and a major funding round in 2025, we are now building our first industrial standard.
Our ambition is bold: to address, by 2027, sectors that represent 10% of the global CO2 emissions on a multi hundred Bn€ market.

🎯 Your Role
You lead the Carbon Material team within Spark Cleantech. The Carbon Material team is integrated within the R&D department of Spark (Spark Labs). The team is responsible for :
the successful incorporation of the structured carbons produced by Spark reactors within customer processes.
advanced carbon material developments from the carbons produced by Spark reactors.
Your main responsibilities will include:
Act as the technical interface with Clients & Prospects, supporting the Business Team to perfectly understand client needs.
Ensure that carbon loads produced by Spark perform as expected in client formulations and processes.
Work closely with the Carbon Synthesis team to design the appropriate carbon load.
Write internal proposals to develop specific, advanced carbon grades, and make sure advanced Programs are delivered on-time.
Manage and develop partnerships with Carbon material Labs in Europe and worldwide
Hire and lead a 3-people Carbon Material team.
Contribute to Spark's intellectual property strategy through active patent monitoring and the protection of new inventions
Help spread a Carbon material culture within all of Spark departments through trainings.
đź§ Your Profile
Ph.D. in Materials Science, ideally with a strong focus on carbon materials
Minimum 10 years of experience in the Carbon Black/ production industry or its use in the rubber, paints, inks, battery industry with hands-on experience of formulation of carbon-based products
Strong expertise in carbon black structure/rheological and mechanical properties of materials
Good knowledge of the material specifications of the automotive and aeronautical industry as well as of conductive additives is a plus.
Fluent English
Client oriented mindset, comfortable interacting with industrial customers
Proven leadership experience in building, developing, and growing teams, including managing suppliers
Strong synthesis abilities
You deeply want to contribute to the decarbonation of our industry ; and bring decarbonized products at cost-parity with emissive ones
